When Adam makes a wild suggestion, Natalie just may take him up on it, even though she knows he's moved on. But when she arrives at the wedding rehearsal-late and ragged-Adam is there. Fortunately for Natalie, her old high-school flame, Adam, has a work commitment and can't be there as best man. Sierra and Jason, high-school sweethearts, are finally getting married. Then she discovers that perception and reality are completely different things. After all, repeatedly watching Old Faithful erupt and walking through sulfur-smelling gases at Fountain Paint Pot don't exactly say "romance." Maybe things with Matt aren't going anywhere, and it's time to move on. ![]() Cassie goes home feeling like she's missing out. In Our Song, a charming romance novella, Cassie and Matt have been dating in the Yellowstone area for two years, and things are, well, average. Readers will love this selection of three contemporary and three historical romance novellas. ![]() ![]() ![]() He drew the whole animated sequence by hand in his spare time. Beginning with a survey of underappreciated masters who perfected the use of color and light, the book examines how light reveals form, the properties of color and pigments, and the wide variety of atmospheric effects. A researched study on two of art's most fundamental themes, Color and Light bridges the gap between abstract theory and practical knowledge. James Gurney, New York Times best-selling author and artist of the Dinotopia series, follows Imaginative Realism with his second art-instruction book, Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter. ![]() This art instruction book is the follow up to the acclaimed Imaginative Realism: How to Paint What Doesn't Exist. ![]() From New York Times best-selling author of the Dinotopia series, James Gurney, comes a carefully crafted and researched study on color and light in paintings. ![]() ![]() ![]() Julie ended up staying with Felix permanently. It took her awhile to get used to me, to trust me not to hurt her or Fallon, but we somehow got there. But here I am, domesticated as fuck.Īmelie has adjusted surprisingly well. If someone had told me a year ago, I would be sitting in an apartment with two women, playing board games and cooking like I was anything but a higher up in the mob, I would’ve told them to fuck off. I’ve just finished up lunch and a game of scrabble with Fallon and Amelie when my phone starts to ring. Sometimes, I pray that Felix never calls because the day he does, I know everything will change. I do my best to stay busy every day, to take my mind off the thought of her leaving. ![]() ![]() I’ll make good on my word and let her, even though it’s going to kill me. I don’t want to let her go… I really fucking don’t, but I told her at the end of all of this, once it was safe, she could leave. My emotions and feelings toward her have matured tremendously, and the thought of her not being here tomorrow or for the rest of my life terrifies me. Over the months, we’ve grown closer, and things have changed. It’s everything I could’ve asked for and more. ![]() Three months come and go in the blink of an eye. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have amassed many athletic prizes and achievements. If I am not enough of a person or a bushwalker without a complete set, I will not be a better one of either (person or bushwoman) with one. Leisel Jones said about her swimming gold medals: “If you are not enough without a gold medal, you will never be enough with one.” I like those words, and I feel that way about Abels. When your soul mate dies, it helps you see things in broader perspective, and to realise the importance of staying alive and being with the people you love. There is a lot more to life than completing lists. I thought that meant I would never get PB, and would never get all the Abels. Meanwhile, we had found the endless kilometres of thigh-deep mud, of resisting, prickly scoparia and the time-wasting, demoralising false leads to all be less than enjoyable to the extent that we declared in agreement we never wanted to return. Then, my Bush Buddy friend Andrew and I had tried together just a few weeks ago, and were turned back on summit day by rain. I had tried a solo venture last year, only to break my wrist and have to retreat after the first day. ![]() I had already been blown off the Southern Ranges by gales and blizzards seemingly countless times before. I had decided Precipitous Bluff (PB to its bushwalking friends) was beyond my capabilities. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What’s interesting is that no book on Monroe is wholly the same. It’s interesting, but for a biography of over 600 pages it’s a little sad to boil Monroe down to her men. I didn’t learn anything new about Monroe, simply about the men in her life. Unfortunately in lieu of Marilyn’s life and work Summers just seems content to jump from relationship to relationship. If you’d like an in-depth look at Monroe’s childhood I recommend Marilyn Monroe: Private and Confidential by Michelle Morgan. To hard-core fans, omitting this is fine since it’s been rehashed in other works. In fact, the book starts with her birth then quickly jumps to Monroe at 16. Goddess doesn’t tell a straight, chronological look at Monroe’s life. The strongest elements of Summers’ work is his research as well as his assertions about Marilyn’s demise. It’s all for the best as a majority of Goddess was well-known to me, and would have simply been repetitive. I wouldn’t call this a biography as Marilyn’s childhood is virtually eliminated. With that, Goddess walks the tightrope between lurid expose (on par with Porter), and intriguing government conspiracy. Since Porter doesn’t include a bibliography with his works it’s unknown if Summers was used or not. ![]() In reading the recent reprint of the book, I found myself reading several excerpts that were lifted, and placed, in Darwin Porter‘s recent book about Marilyn. Anthony Summers seems to have inspired future writers based off his 1984 book Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Three boys, each brothers, their lives all converging.
